The Lithium Robot (part 10 of 12)

Samuel was back at Town Hall at exactly 6:00pm, right on the dot.  As he entered the “Name Changing Court Room,” he was greeted by many friends and family, all of whom congratulating him on taking this step in his life.
Butterflies were running rampide, and Samuel’s hands were twitching.  People were cheering in the background and his parents were throwing streamers all over the room.  As Samuel picked up the pen to sign the contract, he knew that he was living the greatest moment of his life.

[More:]

“This one’s for you Phillip,” Samuel said as he pointed up to the sky.  He scribbled his signature onto the page, as the judge shouted “Can I please have a witness sign the contract as well?”

The judge might have well said he was giving away one hundred dollar bills, for everyone in the entire courtroom began running up to the podium to sign the contract.  However, the honor went to Samuel’s mom who was crying.  She probably got more tear drops on the contract than writing, but the judge accepted, and just like that Samuel’s dream had come true, he would forever be known as Phillip, in honor of King Phillip II.

It was 6:15; the dance auditions would be starting in less than three hours, and even though Phillip knew he was not going to go, he was not sad, for his dream had come true.  However, as Phillip walked out of courtroom, he saw the city officials bringing in floor mats for the upcoming dance auditions.  Knowing that if he stayed in the building where they auditions would be taking place would depress him too much, Phillip left for a place where he could get away, somewhere where he could think and truly come to grasp with being “Phillip.”  He knew exactly where to go.

Twenty minutes later, Phillip arrived at his destination.  He was quite familiar with the spot, as it was his and Betsy’s favorite place to go.  He was at Lookout Mountain overlooking the entire county.  It was secluded, peaceful, and beautiful.  He couldn’t help but think of Betsy, for it had been her that had introduced him to the place.  As Phillip sat there, alone, he began to hear music from the diner below where he sat.  It was Shania Twain, Phillip would have recognized her voice from anywhere.  As he sat there thinking about where his life would go, his foot began to lightly tap with the sound of Shania’s voice.  The tapping of his foot quickly morphed into his entire leg bouncing, and before he knew it he was up on the hill doing the “Spanish Salsa.”

This did not last for long however, as even before Shania had finished her song, Phillip realized what he was doing, he was doing the very thing he was not supposed to be doing.  He had betrayed his hero…his mind began to spin and he began to lose the happiness he had felt upon signing the contract.
