The Lithium Robot (part 8 of 12)

Samuel ran much faster to get to her than he did to get to the auditions, he made it back to the museum in no time, and it seemed that King Phillip II himself had made the timing perfect as there she was coming out of the museum entrance.  Her dentures sparkling in the sun, her boat shoes as beautiful as her lovely vest with the kittens on it, his favorite.  She was wearing the earrings he had given her so long ago, the clip-on little running shoes.

[More:]

As Betsy left the tall doors of the museum, her eyes did not meet Samuel’s right away, on account of her lazy left eye.  When she finally did however, you would have thought she did not have asthma, she ran to him faster than a llama runs to a well of water when it is thirsty.

“So why you here Sammy?” asked Betsy
“Oh, Bets, why do you think I’m here?” Samuel asked with a giggle.
“To search the lost and found for buttons?”
“Yes Betsy, you know me all too well, also I am in the market for glasses frames, I need some red ones I think, do you know if you guys have those?”
“You may want to look, I know we do have a few ivory colored buttons.”
“And…Betsy…” Samuel hesitated, “if you are not doing anything after I rummage through the bin…” Samuel was growing a reddish complexion as he looked down at the ground, “if you are not doing anything, would you like to spend the rest of the afternoon with me?”
“Well I would love to Samuel!” Betsy replied with such a grin you could almost see the only real tooth she had, “but I did not bring my ID with me, so I don’t think we will be able to get the senior discount anywhere we go…” Betsy explained in a somber tone.
“Well…alright…that’s ok…the pleasure of your company is worth more than any 10% discount!” whispered Samuel a bit embarrassed he actually said it, knowing full well King Phillip II would never put others before saving money.

Two ivory colored buttons and a bit of a disappointed Samuel exited the museum three minutes later, and the two were off; off to cheer up Samuel, help him make up his mind, and much to Samuel’s chagrin, pay full price.

On their way to the ice skating rink, Samuel told Betsy his predicament.  He told her about the war that was going on in his head: dancing vs. King Phillip II, he told her about his earlier weakness and his disastrous trip to the Country Buffet.  Upon listening with attentive ears, Betsy held in thought for a moment, determined to help Samuel out.  When she began to move her mouth, Samuel knew right away that this conversation was to change him.
